Your ballot counts!
Your ballot counts – be sure to vote, and encourage three
friends to do the same!
If you haven’t mailed your ballot yet, you can put it
in a mailbox, but make sure it will be postmarked no later than November 4 – OR
bring your ballot with you to your local polling place, or to any polling place or to your county’s office. You aren’t
required to bring your ballot, but the process will go much faster if you do.
If you lost your ballot, or you’re eligible but not
registered to vote, you can come before or on November 4 and vote at the Elections
office, OR, on November 4, you can vote at any polling place in the county in
which you live, or the Elections
office in your county, by filling out a voter registration card and casting
a provisional ballot. Allow some time for this, because the election clerks
have to follow some procedures, including a phone call to the County office. Bring
your identification, because it is needed in some cases (for example, if you
haven’t voted before in a federal election).
Why vote? Many people don’t bother; in 2024, only 60% of
eligible Californians actually voted[1]. This
quote is popularly (but perhaps falsely) attributed to Abraham Lincoln: “Elections
belong to the people. It is their decision. If they decide to turn their back
on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their
blisters.”
