Letter - Feds taking over cities

Dear Editor:

The Trump administration has decided on a Federal takeover of Washington D.C. and he is promising to come for L.A. and Oakland next. I believe him. These are cities are in Democratic states, and they have elected Black leaders. This is not about crime, which is down in D.C., but about an authoritarian takeover of this country.

My Republican Congressman, Kevin Kiley, is all in favor of State’s Rights when it’s for outlawing abortion, but he also appears to be all in favor of Trump taking over our cities. Kiley, through his ongoing silence, has been complicit in everything Trump has done--imposing illogical tarriffs, cutting Medi-Cal, allowing ICE to terrorize communities.

Kiley is an extremist who refuses to protect his constituents, his state, or his country from an authoritarian takeover. Congress has ceded all of their responsibility towards governing and now exists only to prop up whatever Trump says.

Please let Kiley know that he was elected to serve YOU, not to rubber-stamp the policies taking away your freedom and giving your tax money to his billionaire donors. Government should work to protect and aid its citizenry; it should not be ceded to tyrants by complicit cowards like Rep. Kevin Kiley.
