CALIFORNIA LEADS THE WAY IN PROTECTING OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES; HONORS RENEE NICOLE GOOD AND KEITH PORTER JR.
Over
the weekend, thousands of Californians held peaceful and powerful protests against the
killing of innocent citizens by ICE agents, including Renee Nicole Good of
Minneapolis and Keith Porter Jr. of Northridge.
- Communities
across the state and the nation are sending a strong message
that the Trump-GOP attacks on American citizens and immigrants will not be
tolerated.
- The
protests reflected California’s long tradition of peaceful, values-driven
activism, with demonstrators emphasizing justice, transparency, and
community safety.
- California
is also working to protect children in schools against ICE agents
terrorizing students.
- U.S.
Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) has co-authored legislation to prohibit ICE agents
from wearing masks while conducting raids. Masked and plain clothed agents
create confusion and fear, and undermine public trust and public safety.
- Thirty-two people died in Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) custody in 2025 – making it the agency’s
deadliest year in more than two decades, as the Trump administration moved
to detain a record number of people.
