 Tuesday August 25, 6 pm, the Yuba-Sutter Farm Bureau is hosting a public forum for California Assembly District 3 Candidates Dom Belza and Jamie Johansson, and US Congress District 4 Candidates Eric Jones and Mike Thompson at the Yuba County Government Center Board Chambers located at 915 8th Street in Marysville. The Farm Bureau says, “The event will feature a moderated discussion with prepared questions, as well as questions submitted by attendees through an index card process. According to the Economic Security Project’s affordability dashboard, the cost of the  basic necessities families cannot avoid, including groceries, housing, health care, transportation and child care, increased 35% faster than other goods and services. Meanwhile, workers have not shared equally in the economic growth they helped create. Since 1979, median wages have increased just 29%, while worker productivity increased 83%. That is the affordability crisis in a nutshell: Americans are producing more, paying more and still struggling to get by. Housing has become the centerpiece of America’s
affordability crisis. Since 2000, after adjusting for inflation, rents have increased more than 20% and home prices have increased roughly 65%. |

| For young Americans, the housing crisis is defining their economic future. Half of voters under 30 say housing is their top financial concern, more than every other expense combined. Since Trump took office, grocery prices have spiked by the biggest jump in half a century. These increases hit working families hardest because lower-income households have to devote a much larger share of every paycheck to necessities like food, housing and transportation. In fact, the average household has had to spend more than $3,500 extra under Trump. The most recent jobs report showed that the economy lost 23,000 jobs in July. |

Families are expected to pay nearly $4,000 per child
for the upcoming school year, up 11% percent compared to last year. Despite Trump vowing to “never let anyone touch Medicare,” his administration plans to eliminate a key program and force more than 11 million Americans to pay more for their medications in 2027. California Democrats are fighting back with a lawsuit filed by California Attorney General Rob Bonta against the Republicans’ “failed and illegal economic policy. California Democrats are working to address the affordability crisis because: Housing shouldn’t consume half
your paycheck. Child care shouldn’t cost as much as college. Getting sick shouldn’t threaten your family’s financial security. Going to the grocery store shouldn’t cause families to go into debt or face food insecurity. Working full time should provide enough to build a life, raise a family
and save for the future.
